Week Ending 10th February

A busy week at the Trust

During this week I have fulfilled a number of commitments in my role as Chair of the Trust.

Monday

As in most weeks I had my meetings with Mike (Executive Headteacher) and Adrian (Company Secretary). This enables meet to keep well informed about all aspects of the ‘business’ of the Trust.

Tuesday

On Tuesday I was involved in the interview for a Maths teacher from September 2017. It was encouraging to have a good filed of candidates and we were able to make an appointment of an experienced Maths teacher.

Wednesday

On Wednesday I met with Linda (Business Manager) and focussed on financial scrutiny and preparation for the Board’s Resources Committee.

Also on Wednesday I attended to feedback session from Jo Pyke (external evaluator) who has spent a day at Chulmleigh Community College reviewing the work of Heads of Departments. This perspective from Jo is important not only for the school leadership but also for Directors as it gives an objective external judgement about the strengths of the school and areas for development.

Thursday

On Thursday afternoon I was involved in a series of Committee meeting and a full Board of Directors meeting. The Resources Committee met at 2.00pm and fulfilled their responsibility in monitoring and scrutinising resource including budgets and in the case of any items not delegated to the Committee for decision-making making any necessary recommendations to the full Board of Directors.

A Full Board meeting was held following the Resources Committee and dealt with immediate items requiring strategic decisions.

This was followed by the Standards (Secondary) Committee chaired by Tim. Neil Payne as Executive Deputy Headteacher (Secondary) was in attendance and provided an update of pupil progress data, including feedback from the recent Mock exams for Y11 students. Other items on the agenda included, Impact of the Guilds Pupil Premium Funding, Minutes of CCC AAG, Curriculum Review update, and Safeguarding update.

This was followed by the Standards (Primary) Committee chaired by me. Tracy Dodd, Executive Deputy Headteacher (Primary) was in attendance. The agenda included an insight into the new and developing Data Recording System used to monitor pupil progress. This has been developed by the Assistant Headteacher and a Director who has contributed IT skills. Also on the agenda was an item on pupil performance data and the performance of specific groups of children at each primary school, and the strengths and priorities for each primary school.
