Welcome to the Year Six Academy.
Year 6 is a crucial year for primary school pupils. It is the year they take their SATs, and the year they prepare to make the move from primary to secondary education. The transition from primary school to secondary school is an exciting time, but for both pupil and parents, it can also be a daunting time. The Year Six Academy is our answer to these challenges, and we are very proud of what the Academy is achieving.
Our innovative Year Six Academy enables pupils from our primary schools to complete their primary education in an environment in which their learning is focussed completely on the needs of a year 6 pupil, with outstanding teaching tailored to each individual child.
Regular activities and events at the College next door ensure that the transition to secondary school, when it comes, is smooth, seamless, and stress-free. Regular French lessons at the College, for example, give pupils an opportunity to become used to the secondary school environment, while the specialist facilities of the Design Technology workshops are used by our pupils, and many of their Science lessons are taught by specialist secondary teachers. Other facilities shared with the College include dance/drama space, sporting facilities and cookery rooms
Excellent teaching, tailored to the needs of the year 6 pupil, ensures that each child is as well equipped as possible to move onwards when they finish year 6, and for pupils of the Year Six Academy, the gates to the College are already familiar and welcoming when they move on to their secondary education.
