About Us

Chulmleigh Preschool PFSU is a registered charity and a non-profit making subsidiary company of Chulmleigh Academy Trust. We are OFSTED regulated and inspected and at our last OFSTED inspection the Preschool was graded ‘good‘.

Funding

Your child is entitled to a funded place in the term after they are 3 years old.  You can claim funding for up to 15/30 hours.  We are also registered for 2yr old funded children who are issued with a Golden Ticket.

You can access additional hours over your Early Years Entitlement, which are charged at the current EYE hourly rate and will be invoiced termly.

Further details are available on request.

Snacks

We provide a drink of milk or water, and a variety of fruit or crackers and cheese, during the morning session, and have water available at all times.

Parent meetings

We offer a formal parents meeting every term. This is an opportunity for you to celebrate your child’s achievements in the Preschool and at home, and also to discuss your child’s next steps in their learning.

Keypersons

Your child will be allocated a keyperson when they join the preschool who will be responsible for settling your child into the setting, and will be your main point of contact. They will also be responsible for maintaining your child’s record of achievement and learning journey, and planning for their next steps in learning.

Write Dance

We offer a range of Write Dance activities to children across the PFSU. Write Dance is a progressive music and movement programme introducing handwriting by using music, movement and exercise to develop pre-writing and writing skills in children.  It provides opportunities for children to develop their fine and gross motor co-ordination, and as a result assists children to build  comfortable, readable, quick and distinctive handwriting.  It does not use letters but focuses on the shape of letters – the basic movements and, in a playful and creative way, the children practise the movements, the pressure and the speed that together make up our letters.

The exercises can be done using all kinds of different materials – sand, shaving foam, paint, chalk, crayons, pencils, water, sponges and can be done on a bare table, the floor, on paper, blackboard, indoors or outdoors.

In Write Dance you can never do anything wrong!

EYFS Curriculum

All children follow the EYFS curriculum which covers seven areas of learning:

      Prime Areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development

      Specific Areas:

  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • The World
  • Expressive Art and Design

Each area of learning has a set of related Early Learning Goals which are broken down into smaller progressive Stepping Stones. Staff observe children during their play, both adult and child-initiated, this then informs our planning and setting of the children’s next steps in their learning. Each child has an online learning journal (Tapestry) which is updated regularly and assessed by parent/carers.

Partnership with Parents

We welcome parent/carers to come and help in the PFSU. This will involve preparing the snack and a variety of other activities. You may be required to complete a DBS check.

In our continuous provision we are able to provide...

  • provision of a high quality and consistent education for children throughout the whole foundation stage
  • continuous outdoor play in all weathers
