We are delighted to invite prospective pupils and parents/carers to an interactive open evening where you can find out more about our school. The evening is for parents and pupils considering Chulmleigh for Year 7 entry in September 2019, and also pupils moving into Years 8 and 9 who are considering joining us this year.

Nappy Changing Policy

Statement of Intent

No child is excluded from participating in our setting who may, for any reason, not be toilet trained and who may still be wearing nappies or equivalent.  We work with parents towards toilet training, unless there are medical or other developmental reasons why this may not be appropriate at the time.

We provide nappy changing facilities and exercise good hygiene practices in order to accommodate children who are not yet toilet trained.

We see toilet training as a self-care skill that children have the opportunity to learn with the full support and non-judgemental concern of adults.

Procedures

  • A list is displayed in the WC of the children who are in pull ups/nappies.
  • There is a changing area available in the setting.
  • Each child should have their own pull ups/wipes in their personal bags, but the preschool do have a supply of their own, if needed.
  • Gloves are put on by staff before changing starts and the area prepared.
  • All staff are familiar with the hygiene procedures and carry these out when changing children’s nappies and other personal hygiene accidents.
  • Pull ups/nappies and wipes are placed in a nappy sack and put in the nappy bin for disposal.  Any other soiled garments, ie. knickers, pants, clothing are put in a carrier bag with the child’s name on and handed to the parent/carer when the child is collected.
  • Children are prompted and encouraged to use the WC throughout the session, and children in pull ups/nappies are changed regularly, ie. morning, after lunch and afternoon.
  • Each child’s individual needs are taken into consideration and all staff are aware of these.
  • Children are encouraged to be independent and to wash their hands after using the WC.
  • All staff are aware that they do not make any inappropriate comments whilst changing children in our care.
