Post 16 - Careers
We aim to ensure that when our pupils leave us at 16, they are well-rounded individuals who are critical thinkers and able to make informed decisions about their further education and subsequent life choices.
We have strong links with local colleges and sixth form providers, as well as the Careers South West service, who all attend parents' evenings and the Year 9 Options Fair, in order to provide information and advice on further education opportunities.
Pupils will find out about how to gain access to further education, giving them information and the necessary knowledge to make sensible and realistic choices about their future.
In Year 10 we offer an 'Aspire' day for pupils, where speakers and employers are invited to the College and provide workshops and careers talks. On the following day pupils visit a local university.
At the beginning of Year 11, all pupils also have the opportunity to have a one-to-one interview with our local further education providers: Exeter College, Petroc, Bicton College and QE Sixth Form, where they can discuss course requirements and suitability.
CareerPilot This website provides information on the full range of choices available at 14, 16 and 18, including GCSE options advice, A-Levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships, college and higher level study. There are also quizzes and other tools that pupils can use to help them plan their careers and assess their employability skills. Their 'Parent Zone' has very useful guidance and information on the choices available to children and how to support them at these important stages.
icould This website has excellent videos interviewing people in many different careers; from agriculture and engineering to law and performing arts. Their 'Buzz Quiz' helps pupils think about their personality and what type of career they might suit, and there is also a 'Life Events' section to help those struggling to decide on their way forward.
Success at School This website has helpful articles and sections about how to develop transferable skills, information about apprenticeships, advice from people in different industries, as well as a course and job search facility.
